Naomi has been a homeowner and resident of Back of the Yards since 2014. She first got involved in the neighborhood in 2010 while filming a documentary about the history of the community. Upon completion of the project, she teamed up with volunteers from the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council and UNION Impact Center to offer area youth a summer filmmaking camp. Two of the participants ended up going to school for media and communications, and one who is still in high school ended up mentoring other youth in a filmmaking group a few years later.
Naomi grew up in Eau Claire, WI, but has lived in Chicago since 2007. Prior to moving to Back of the Yards, Naomi has lived in Pilsen, Little Village, West Elston, and Archer Heights. She currently works in the public safety field and is passionate about social issues, especially immigration reform, public education, and mental health. She currently serves as a board member for UNION Impact Center. She is also very active in local politics and advocates for progressive causes.
